Strata Community Energy: Building a brand identity from the ground up

Strata Community Energy (SCE) is an energy procurement consultancy for owners corporations. Founded by CEO James Kempthorne and Director Tom Bacon, SCE works with strata committees and strata managers to reduce the energy costs of their buildings through green energy initiatives such as solar panel installation and electric vehicle charging stations.

We were engaged by the team at SCE to develop a modern, recognisable brand identity, website and launch collateral including business cards and an information booklet with a folder.

Forming a strong brand identity

To get SCE’s brand positioning right, we started by working with the team to form a clear picture of their key goals and vision, and how the business fits into the broader market.

“Carolyn and the team really got to understand what our business does and where it’s trying to head, and worked with us to make it all fit together,” says James.

“The effort they took to make sure we ended up where we needed to be was fantastic. It wasn’t just ‘Here’s a template that everyone else uses’; it was a really in-depth look at where the market is going and what we’re trying to achieve, and making that work for us.”

Establishing a professional image

With the brand positioning in place, we collaboratively developed a website and marketing collateral to support SCE in achieving their goals.

“Tom and I are probably the least design-oriented people you could imagine, so the vast majority of the direction came from the Little Village Creative team,” says James.

“The professionalism of everyone we dealt with was great and we were really impressed with everything they did. In terms of understanding what we were after, they really hit it out of the park. We were amazed with the look and feel of everything.”

“Even when we were happy, they were still working to make things even better. That really stood out for us.”

Providing the groundwork for growth

Although SCE is still in its early stages, James says having a clear brand identity and professional presence is invaluable for earning trust from new clients and growing the business.

“It’s still early days, but in terms of showing professionalism when we talk to clients, Little Village Creative has played a big part in that. We’re a new business and we’re asking people to trust us, and having a professional image is a huge help in doing that.”
