Xerocon 2019: Record-breaking leads for AccountKit

AccountKit is a suite of efficiency and visibility tools designed to power up cloud-based accounting practices and bookkeepers. We’ve been working with AccountKit since 2016, offering end-to-end marketing support spanning online and print media, social media and events.

Earlier this year, AccountKit engaged Little Village Creative to help them achieve maximum cut-through at Xerocon through a cohesive offline-online strategy. With quality leads being a priority for the AccountKit team, we knew a standout creative concept was the first step to generating a return on investment.

Taking inspiration from AccountKit founder Paul Murray’s former career in video gaming, as well as classic 8-bit game design, we conceptualised “AccountBit World”: a fun, retro-inspired take on the AccountKit brand.

Our goal was to design a theme that would be eye-catching and transform AccountKit’s event stand into something fun and engaging. We’re fortunate that in Paul and his team, we have a client who appreciates doing things a bit differently!

With our theme nailed down, we designed, produced and built all the elements of the stand, along with themed props encouraging people to take selfies and post on social media with the hashtag #AccountBitWorld.

On the day, the stand was a huge hit with attendees – such a hit that it led to record-breaking leads.

“Universally, everyone loved it,” says Paul. “They really liked how unique it was and even just that feeling of nostalgia – people really identified with it.”

“We doubled our quality unique leads compared with last year, so it was a really great result for us. We were flat out all day, often presenting to groups of 10 or 15 people at a time.”

In fact, Paul and the team loved AccountBit World so much that they’ll be using it as the theme for all of their event collateral into next year. This will be especially beneficial for building brand recognition over the next few months.

“When you see it, you have to think a bit,” says Paul. “It creates a sort of good friction where people are looking and saying ‘Oh wow, what’s this?’ People engage with it much more readily because it’s so different.”

More growth, more tools, more fun

2019 has been a big year for AccountKit, and the team isn’t showing signs of stopping any time soon. Paul’s focus for the next six to 12 months will be on building even more tools to help make accountants’ day-to-day tasks easier, and, dare we say, fun?

“We’ve always got new tools on the horizon. We never want to stop creating tools that bring delight to accountants – it’s about taking things that are sometimes boring or laborious and making them fun and exciting.”

When it comes to AccountKit’s impressive growth, Paul says the support from Little Village Creative has been invaluable.

“Working with Little Village Creative has helped grow the AccountKit brand massively,” he says. “Without their help, we’d still probably be largely unknown. It’s given us amazing visibility and helped us get to where we are today. We get a lot of feedback about how we seem to pop up all over the place and that when we do, the message is very unique and engaging.”

“As for working together, the communication is outstanding, the team is very receptive to feedback and they’re quick to meet the deliverables. It only takes a couple of not-so-great experiences with other providers to realise how good the Little Village Creative team is.”
